Many of them still fight each other violently for survival and dominance – like humans have always done, and like they always will. Various factions have formed in the chaos right after the war was over. Ninety percent of the population, including the United European Government, have perished.Īlmost all the infrastructure has been destroyed, and there has not been any contact to other continents ever since. It looks pretty badass - kinda like a cyborg Super Mutant from the Fallout games.Twenty-five years have passed since The Awakening – a catastrophic event in which an artificial intelligence called the Mainframe has gone rogue and turned it´s robotic armies against all other lifeforms on Earth. We barely won the war at a great cost. There's also the new 'Titan' race which is supposed to drop with the new update. I'm currently making a co-op map that uses some of the new features, to try and test them out. There's even a feature that lets towns and locations evolve as the story progresses, which is pretty cool. The campaign looks like it will also have a barter system, conversation trees and a squad recruitment mechanic, judging from the campaign editor they released. Most active players use the Dustwind Discord to organise matches, which you get a link to in the main menu. While the player base is fairly small in between updates, you can still get a good group together for co-op or pvp on weekends. You can also launch a co-op game with just yourself and let other people join later.īefore the mission starts you can go into 'custom settings' and enable 'xp gain', which lets you level up your characters during the mission. There are 9 'official' single player maps, but there also a bunch of user-made ones you can play in co-op mode. Starkmaddness basically has it covered, but there's a few things I'd like to add. With a campaign coming, I don't think you would regret buying it if you enjoy games like Fallout Tactics (Which is also a game worth playing). While I do wish there were more maps, there is enough content to get your moneys worth trying out different party builds and tactics. You can create event triggers and such which spawn enemies, open doors, etc. Also, the tools allow for basic scripting, but are not quite up to creating RPG-like maps found in Fallout Tactics. The issue is the small player base, so you will have to bring your own friends.Ĭreating maps doesn't seem too difficult, but does take a time commitment. Haven't played Co-OP but I suspect it would be a lot of fun. But other than Valkyries and Dogs not being able to equip weapons, there are no restrictions to what skills you choose. Robots are good assault and detection units. The Valkyrie has swords for arms, so they are your melee specialist. Each race has bonuses/penalties that sort of lend them to different rolls. There are no classes per se, but there are 4 different races. Except on defend missions, where you need good enough gear to survive the first wave. She is great for 'finding' starting weapons for the team. One of the races you can pick is a Valkyrie, who is a cybernetic sword armed chick. Hence why I never spend much on starting gear. There IS ammo, and you CAN loot ammo/weapons/grenades/etc from anyone you kill. Make 5 bad ass characters who start basically naked and have a 6th skilless idiot who starts with some basic gear for everyone. So if you want to start with good gear, you will need to sacrifice some skills. Essentially you have a set amount of points to spend on each character skills and traits, but this is shared with starting equipment. One difference is, you don't really level up as their is no campaign. You can control up to 6 characters depending on the map. The game plays somewhat like Fallout Tactics. Looking forward to the single player campaign. More maps would definately be appreciated though. Some of them are defend against waves, some are to reach an objective. There is a okay-ish number of single player maps (9).

Sophos immediately detected 97% of the downloaded malware samples - including some of the latest “zero-day” threats. This isn’t quite on par with top brands like Bitdefender and Norton, both of which scored a 100% detection rate during testing, but it’s still pretty great.Īfter Sophos completed its initial scan, I reloaded the malware samples on my computer and launched them all one by one. When I ran Sophos’s full system scan, I was genuinely impressed. Some of these were older, well-known viruses, and some were brand new malware samples. Sophos claims that its malware scanner can detect a wide range of malware and cyber threats, so I spent a lot of time testing it to see if this was true.īefore testing, I uploaded hundreds of malware samples onto my PC, including spyware, ransomware, viruses, trojans, and rootkit samples. You can also set up a scheduled scan at a day and time that works best for you. You can access it from the desktop app or the online dashboard. Sophos’s malware scanner is very easy to use. Plus, it includes coverage for up to 10 Macs or PCs (and unlimited mobile devices). It’s got near-perfect malware detection rates, all the basic features most users need to keep their devices secure, and a couple of really cool extras. That said, Sophos is a good, low-cost antivirus. Top competitors like Norton 360 offer all these features and more. The Home Premium package doesn’t come with extra features like a VPN, secure cloud storage, a password manager, or device optimization tools. That said, Sophos’s Mac version does still provide real-time antivirus protection, basic web protection, parental web filtering, and remote device management. If you use a Mac, you’d be better off with one of our top antiviruses for Mac users. I was disappointed to learn that the Mac version of Sophos Home Premium doesn’t include some of the features that the PC version offers, including advanced web protection. Sophos also offers remote management, which is great if you need to control the settings, scans, or parental controls on multiple devices at once. Artificial intelligence-based real-time protection.Īll these features are very intuitive, and they all have simple on/off buttons.Sophos Home Premium comes with all of the essential antivirus security features, including: Plus, Sophos is one of the cheapest antiviruses around, it offers a 30-day free trial (no credit card required), and it has a risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee. That said, Sophos is a pretty good choice for users looking for a simple antivirus that offers reliable protection against known and emerging malware and internet security threats. I’d also like Sophos to include some additional features that almost all of 2022’s best antiviruses have, such as device optimization and a VPN. Norton’s desktop app is way more feature-rich and useful. However, I don’t like that users need to open Sophos’s online dashboard to access all of the features and configure the antivirus’s settings - Sophos does have a minimalistic desktop app, but you can only use it for a couple of basic actions, like scanning your system and accessing the online dashboard. This is ideal if you need an easy way to change security settings, run malware scans, and manage parental control settings on multiple devices at once. One of my favorite things about Sophos is that you can remotely manage its features on up to 10 devices. I also tested all of Sophos’s additional features, including: I wanted to find out whether Sophos Home Premium really is as good as advertised and whether its advanced malware scanner could actually stop all of the latest and most sophisticated malware.ĭuring my tests, I was extremely impressed with Sophos’s scanning capabilities - the antivirus blocked and removed almost all of my downloaded malware samples, including spyware, ransomware, trojans, rootkits, and viruses. However, it also provides antivirus software for general consumers, promising “business-grade cybersecurity” for home use. Sophos is a well-known cybersecurity company that provides security software for businesses. Our experiments show that pretraining with either text-only or multi-modal data provides significant gains over no pretraining, on both the established YouCook2 benchmark and the new ViTT benchmark. Our approach entails jointly pretraining both multimodal encoder and text-based decoder models via MASS-style pretraining song2019mass. In contrast to prior work that focused on BERT-style pretraining of encoder networks ( sun2019videobert sun2019contrastive), Motivated by the high cost of collecting human annotations, we investigate pretraining a video segment captioning model using unsupervised signals – ASR ( Automatic Speech Recognition) tokens and visual features from instructional videos, and unpaired instruction steps extracted from independent sources: Recipe1M marin2019recipe1m+ and WikiHow koupaee2018wikihow. Using YouCook2 and the new ViTT dataset as benchmarks for testing model performance and generalization, we further focus on the sub-problem of video-segment–level caption generation, assuming segment boundaries are given hessel2019case sun2019videobert luo2020univilm For the given video scene, we show the ViTT annotation (Groundtruth) and model outputs (no pretraining and MASS-based pretraining). Groundtruthįigure 1: Dense video captioning using ViTT–trained models. This task is closely related to the dense video captioning task considered in prior work zhou2018towards Zhou2018EndtoEndDV krishna2017densecaptioning, where an instructional video is first segmented into its main steps, followed by segment-level caption generation. Producing such meta-data in an automatic way would greatly scale up the efforts of providing easier information access to videos. This effort echoes prior work in the literature showing how users of instructional videos can benefit from human-curated meta-data, such as a timeline pointing to the successive steps of a tutorial kim2014crowdsourcing margulieux2012subgoal weir2015learnersourcing. This enables users to get a quick sense of what the video covers, and also to jump to a particular time in the video if so desired. Recognizing this difficulty, search engines started showing links to “key moments” within videos in search results, based on timestamps and short descriptions provided by the content creators themselves. Indeed, compared to traditional content format such as text, video carries richer information to satisfy such needs.īut as a content media, videos are also inherently more difficult to skim through, making it harder to quickly target the relevant part(s) of a video. Audiences that would otherwise not be able to fully comprehend your video because, say, of a linguistic barrier or hearing impairment, can now enjoy them.An important reason for this fast-growing video consumption is information-seeking.įor instance, people turn to YouTube “hungry for how-to and learning content” oneilhart2018 In summary, captions and subtitles expand your audience. If you want to do subtitles as well, but have a tight budget, think about choosing the most common language(s) to include a wider audience (e.g., Spanish and Mandarin). At the very least, captions should always be included so that you are not excluding a large part of your audience. Ideally, it’s a good idea to have both captions and subtitles if you can afford it. If you’re intending to include audiences globally, then subtitles in foreign language(s) is important so that people in non-English speaking countries can also enjoy your video or film. It’s also a good idea to include captions if you’re posting on social media like Facebook or Instagram because most people keep their sound off. The main thing to note is “who is your audience” and what medium are you posting your media? For instance, if your audience is everybody, including the deaf and hearing-impaired, then captions would be ideal. We carry a whole range of spare parts-everything you will ever need. There are several flawed elements that undermine the combat, including an unbalanced pace, repetitive maps, and hit-or-miss AI. Overall, it’s a robust system with plenty of options for players with a wide range of equipment, multitude of interesting gangster classes, and excellent variety of weapons. Combat is very much XCOM-inspired in its turn-based tactical implementation, with each character having an inventory and abilities that affect the battlefield in some way. Three main systems form the core gameplay loop of Empire of Sin: combat, empire management, and diplomacy. Alcohol production and its illegal trade are at the narrative and strategic gameplay’s core, which helps highlight Prohibition-era criminal struggles. The voice acting of the bosses is good too, though not without some audio quality oddities, and the writing is great in character conversations and dialogue, despite some occasional typos and repetitive options, especially in sitdowns. The graphical and musical direction are particular highlights of Empire of Sins’s presentation. For example, why doesn’t Daniel McKee Jackson, who specializes in casinos, start with one or some other combination of rackets? It would have been interesting to see each boss lean into their specialty a bit more from the start to differentiate themselves better and further increase replayability. However, the replayability of the game suffers somewhat as the bosses still function similarly in combat, have similar skill trees, and start the same with two rackets to their name: a brewery and a speakeasy (businesses illegally selling alcohol). The 14 bosses add good replayability as each character has their own special combat abilities, traits and stats, bonuses to rackets, and diplomatic features, as well as affiliations with other bosses in-game. Compared to other turn-based tactical strategy games like XCOM or Phoenix Point, which follow a linear narrative, potentially limiting replayability and roleplaying possibilities, the sandbox nature of Empire of Sin provides more opportunity for roleplaying as it really is up to the player how they want to approach their playthrough. The setting, though less a simulation and more of an impressionist take, is incredibly well-realized and the inclusion of a good range of bosses immediately shows the developers’ dedication and care for the source material. Set during the 1920s Prohibition era crime-ridden Chicago, players choose from one of fourteen real and historically-inspired bosses in their pursuit of total control over Chicago’s criminal underworld. This is exactly the case with Empire of Sin: a stylish and flavorful game with great aesthetic direction, but chose to wear an old worn-out coat for some reason instead.Įmpire of Sin, developed by Romero Games and published by Paradox Interactive, is a pausable sandbox real-time strategy game with turn-based tactical battles. You’d better polish your shoes to a shine before seeing the boss - dirty clothes can give the wrong impression. Splice Video Editor is an amazing application having several useful features.
